The Veterinary Teaching Hospital of the College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a Farm Manager. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, fixed term professional faculty position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Dean.
The Veterinary Teaching Hospital provide primary health care for animals locally and referral care for animals in Oregon and the region, participate in the education of veterinary students through clinical training, develop new diagnostic and therapeutic techniques for veterinary care, and provide consultation service to practitioners and clients.
This position oversees the daily operations necessary in maintaining general patient areas in the Large Animal Clinic and teaching herd barn; manages the feed and supply inventory; maintains equipment; assists with hospital projects; and supervises animal attendants, student workers, and seasonal workers.
Minimum Qualifications (Staff) / Guidelines (Faculty):
Typically requires 2 years’ experience working on an agricultural farm, ranch or facility. Farm and vehicle endorsements and licensure may be required.
Demonstrated abilities in the knowledge of care and handling of large animals and 5 years farm, ranch, or agricultural facilities management; or equivalent personal experience.
Minimum of 3 years of supervisor experience.
Ability to operate a tractor and drive a pickup.
High school diploma or equivalent.
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 24 months.
This position requires driving a University vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the University; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Motor Vehicle History Check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions (as per Voluntary and Compulsory Driver Standards OSU Standard 125-155-0200) as per OSU 576-056-0000 et seq.
Regular schedule is Monday-Friday 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. However, additional evening and weekend hours may be required to accomplish tasks, complete projects, and meet deadlines. This position is located in an extremely busy Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Individual has possible exposure to noxious odors, infectious diseases, chemicals, gas anesthetics, radiation, loud noises, and machinery. Working with and around large animals has certain inherent risks; animal handling and restraint can lead to injury. The employee in this position will often be required to lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds, as well as push or pull objects weighing up to 200 pounds. Employee will also be required to stoop, bend, and kneel on hard floors as necessary to provide care to animals.
This position is considered essential and may be required to work during inclement weather.
Salary (Minimum): $36,228
Salary (Maximum): $61,560
Additional Salary Information: Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
