This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (approximately 19 hours per week) Office Specialist 1 (bilingual – Spanish) position for the Marion County Extension Office of Oregon State University (OSU). The position will be located in Salem, Oregon.
The Marion County Extension Service office is one of 37 OSU Extension Offices in Oregon. This Office provides informal educational programs in the areas of Agriculture, Family and Community Development, Traditional 4-H, 4-H Outreach/Soccer, Sea Grant, Watershed Management, Sustainable Communities, Agritourism and Horticulture. There are eleven faculty, four program assistants and three office program support staff. The office receives funding from Marion County currently at the level of $966,553 annually. There are 326,000 residents in Marion County and the annual value of agricultural production is $516 million. Marion County has a significant Latino Population and programs and services are targeted toward Spanish speaking audiences. Educational programs include workshops, tours, one-to-one contacts, newsletters, news media, Ag Fest, Web Pages and correspondence courses. Volunteer programs include 4-H and 4-H Outreach, Master Gardeners, Master Food Preservers, Wildlife Stewards and Master Woodland Managers.
The Office Specialist 1 performs general office work that may include varying amounts of record/document processing, file maintenance, volume word-processing, mail handling, public contact/information dissemination, and basic bookkeeping. Work is performed in support of campus programs or business operations and requires a general knowledge of institution business operations, policies, procedures, and office technology.
This office is in Marion County as a part of OSU Statewide.
Minimum Qualifications (Staff) / Guidelines (Faculty):
Completion of courses or training in Office Technology; OR One year of general clerical experience which included typing, word processing, or other generation of documents; OR An equivalent combination of training and experience.
Must be Bi-Lingual in English and Spanish both in written and oral form.
Excellent time management skills and priority decision making.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrable excellent customer service
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 24 months.
This position requires driving a University vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the University; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Motor Vehicle History Check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per OSU Standard 576-056-0000 et seq.
General working hours are flexible. Occasional night and/or weekend meeting support for 4-H Soccer. Days Monday-Saturday approx. 19 hrs per week. Standing, sitting, bending, lifting up to 40 lbs.
