  1. Describe your experience working independently, prioritizing assignments, making decisions, and meeting multiple deadlines in a busy and fast-paced work environment. Give examples of tasks for which you were solely responsible, and which involved critical thinking or difficult decisions.

  2. The Craft Center offers workshops in multiple studio areas, including ceramics, fiber arts, jewelry, darkroom photography, hot and cold glass processes, painting and drawing, printmaking, and woodworking. Please describe your experience working in any of these disciplines.

  3. This position interacts with a wide range of individuals, including University of Oregon students, staff, faculty, visitors, and vendors. Describe your experience managing a customer service environment, including answering the telephone, greeting visitors, providing specialized instruction and safety information, publicly representing an organization, and leading other customer service workers in these tasks. If possible, offer specific information about your experience working in higher education, especially with students. Give examples demonstrating your ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.

  4. Describe your ability to learn and adapt to diverse tools and technologies used in the daily operations of a complex office. Specific examples could include website content management systems, industry specific point of sale devices, complex staff scheduling tools, or business management software.

Department Summary

The Erb Memorial Union (EMU) is a department of the Division of Student Life. The EMU is a multifaceted auxiliary service that employs over 90 professional staff and 200 student staff, and serves over 15,000 daily users during the academic year. The EMU welcomes students, faculty, staff, the community and visitors to campus, and its mission is to provide learning experiences and opportunities for personal growth in an open, inclusive, and resource-rich community where students and staff collaborate to inspire and sustain extraordinary programs and services that promote diversity and social interaction. The EMU is student centered and is operated in collaboration with a student Board, which is actively involved in determining the character and scope of the department. The Board approves the budget recommendations of all EMU services and programs.

Position Summary

The purpose of this position is to assist the Craft Center Director and Assistant Directors with the delivery of quality Craft Center workshops, student staff support, daily operations, program promotion and retail services. The Center places an emphasis on excellent customer service and positive student learning outcomes in a diverse and multicultural environment. This position communicates operational and safety policies and procedures to participants and staff.

Work Schedule

Schedule is 10:30am-7:00pm M-TH and 10:00am-6:30pm F

Minimum Requirements

• Two years of general clerical experience. One year of which included typing, word processing, or other experience generating documents; OR

• An Associate's degree in Office Occupations or Office Technology; OR

• Graduation from a private school of business with a Certificate in Office Occupations or Office Technology and one year of general clerical experience.

College courses in Office Occupations or Office Technology will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

• 3 years providing administrative and organizational support

• Knowledge of arts and craft processes and supplies

• Working knowledge in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Acrobat

• Skills in one or more studio areas appropriate to the Craft Center

• Marketing and promotion experience

• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel
