PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Registered Nurse – Specialty Clinic serves the patient, the physician and other staff members by assisting in the delivery of specialty health care and patient care management.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 100 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours. Requires exposure to communicable diseases and fluids.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Perform selected nursing and administrative duties.
Prepare patients for examination and treatment. Take patient history and vital signs.
Prepare exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments.
Give injections and apply splints and dressings.
Prepare and maintain supplies and equipment for treatments.
Assist physicians in preparing for and performing minor surgeries and procedures.
Provide patient education and answer questions related to specialty procedures and diagnoses.
May be responsible for disclosing results of diagnostic work to patients following the physician’s results and answering questions.
Perform nurse triage related to the specialty.
Maintain the patient file, records and other information.
Maintain strictest confidentiality.
Ongoing Customer Service Training.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience and Skills:
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge of medical practice and care to assist in giving patient care.
Knowledge of examination, diagnostic and treatment room procedures. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care. Skill in assisting in a variety of treatments and medications as directed. Skill in taking vital signs. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. Skill in maintaining records and recording test results. Assist in maintaining department quality assurance. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public. Ability to maintain quality control standards. Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures. Ability to communicate clearly.
EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
EXPERIENCE: One - two years of professional nursing experience.. Experience in relevant specialty preferred.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSE: Possession of a current Oregon RN license required. ACLS Certification and Healthcare provider CPR required.
