Position Summary

Researches, develops, designs, and tests a variety of equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial and industrial purposes.

This position requires significant supervision of all levelsof personnel.You will be accountablefor technical direction and administration of a small project or an area on alarge project.Your duties andresponsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Gain familiarity with the client’s expectations, scope,budget and schedule to lead discipline design effort

  • Recognize and communicate scope and design changes promptly

  • Provide on-site assistance during startup

  • Produce all electrical specifications and drawingdeliverables

  • Proactively lead and coordinate the efforts of a design staffto achieve scope, schedule and budget objectives

  • Mentor subordinates

  • Review and approve all electrical deliverables

  • When in responsible charge, seal construction deliverables

  • Participate in squad checks to insure coordination betweenthe design disciplines

  • Provide checking services when required

  • Determineconstruction quantities and provide construction cost estimates

  • Knowledge and application of the current version of theNational Electrical Code (NEC)

  • Knowledge and application of other relevant codes andstandards such as the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA),American National Standards Institute (ANSI), National Electrical Safety Code(NESC), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), etc.

  • Knowledge and application of company engineering design andCAD drafting standards

  • Knowledge and application of Article 500, Hazardous (Classified)Locations, in the current version of the National Electrical Code (NEC)

  • Able to perform zonal cavity and point-to-point lightinglevel calculations

  • Able to size wire, conduit and overcurrent protection forboth lighting and power applications

  • Able to perform voltage drop calculations

  • Able to route conduit and cable tray

  • Able to calculate tray fill

  • Able to determine facility & motor control centerloading

  • Familiarity with specifications and installation details ofconstruction bulk materials and equipment

  • Ability to create accurate electrical installation documentsfrom the information found on vendor equipment drawings

  • Able to determine load center unit substation loading

  • Able to develop equipment specifications for 480VACequipment such as motor control centers, variable frequency drives, inductionand synchronous motors, load center unit substations, etc.

  • Able to produce a 15kV power system single line diagram

  • Familiarity with 15kV power system equipment andinstallation techniques both above and below ground

  • Able to develop equipment specifications for 15kV/5kVequipment such as switchgear, load break switches, motor control centers, etc.and capable of performing calculations for required short circuit andovercurrent protective device ratings

  • Able to develop electrical installation specifications

  • Knowledge and understanding of work flow/information flowbetween disciplines

  • Knowledge and understanding of schedule constraints andinformation requirements for the production of all electrical deliverables

  • Ability to accurately estimate completion of assigned tasks

  • Able to develop a construction cost estimate, a detailedengineering schedule and a effort hour budget for a small project or an areafor a large project

  • Able to determine construction material quantities

  • Developing design criteria and scope of work

  • Forecasting hours to complete professional services

  • Developing staffing plans based on deliverables to beproduced and the project schedule

  • Identifying information required and proactively obtainingit

  • Coordinating withother disciplines regarding design development, changes, etc.



  • P.E.Registration

  • Thisposition requires a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in electricalengineering with 28 years being more common.

  • Working knowledge of 2D AutoCAD and Microstation

  • Familiarity with Revit, Rebis, PDS 3D or other third partydesign software as determined necessary

  • Familiarity with various electrical modeling software suchas EasyPower, SKM A-Fault (short circuit calculation software) and SKM Captor(protective relay coordination software)

  • Proficient in Microsoft Mail, Word, Excel and Access

  • Familiarity with a third party lighting design softwarepackage

  • Able to lead small project team to deliver on commitments

  • Able to coordinate with the process group to provideefficient equipment layouts and space usage

  • Able to gain trust and respect of subordinates and theproject engineer/project manager

  • Good listening, writing and communication skills

  • Able to deliverconvincing presentation of Jacobs’ services
