Functions/Duties of Position
The NP/PA is credentialed by the Medical Board of OHSU and Legacy Emanuel to practice in the hospital setting and to perform procedures as authorized by the medical board and within the scope specified by the respective licensing board. THIS POSITION IS BASED OUT OF THE LEGACY EMANUEL CAMPUS.
Coordinates and supports the needs of outpatient and clinical support operations for the Division of Pediatric Surgery. The NP/PA works in close partnership with faculty physicians, advanced practice providers, surgical residents and referring providers to provide excellent clinical care and customer service in the outpatient and inpatient area. The NP/PA works to assure a smooth transition of patient care and education between the outpatient and inpatient arenas in order to decrease length of stay, improve patient outcomes. Assists with inpatient coordination activities as needed. Coordinates/communicates pre-operative preparations and inpatient needs with designated clinic mid-level provider/attending surgeon/other services. The NP/PA is responsible for scheduled and urgent outpatient clinic visits, coordination of diagnostics, surgical scheduling and post-surgical/long-term care of the complex surgical patients. Ensures appropriate physical and psychosocial preparation of patients and family for surgery, procedures and surgical admissions; collaborates with nursing, caregivers, and other disciplines to resolve patient issues. Assists with insurance, case management and home supply issues.
Participates in clinical research projects and collaborates with faculty to implement evidence based clinical practice.
Ongoing orientation of residents to the Pediatic Surgery Clinic at Randall Children’s Hospital, Legacy Emanuel, and management of pediatric surgical patients. Participates in daily patient care rounds, and the education of medical students, residents, fellows, and nursing staff. Participates in pediatric surgery educational conferences and mortality and morbidity conferences. Attends and/or participates in national/regional conferences for academic and professional development.
Takes responsibility for timely and accurate documentation in EPIC with an awareness of reimbursement issues. Develops order and documentation templates to maximize patient safety. Works to improve patient care, work environment and teamwork of the entire service through creative development of ideas and care plans.
- Master’s Degree as required by specific Advanced Practice Provider role.
- 3 – 5 years clinical experience as an APP that demonstrates ability to fulfill responsibilities for the specific role.
