Job Overview

Reliability Growth is a test fleet of 30-40 heavy duty and medium duty vehicles ranging from currently available content to products that will go to market in the next 1-3 years. Team responsibilities include maintaining Powertrain software and calibration, investigating fault code and performance issues and validating Mechatronic systems features and functions. Individual job duties include work planning for the team taking into account several factors such as current projects and priorities, cross-functional impacts and team workload as well as participating in meetings such as daily shop floor standup, internal and external fault code reviews and RG and Detroit cross-functional meetings to represent the Portland team. Ongoing tasks include training, mentoring and coaching team members and pushing continuous improvement initiatives.


  • Collaborate with Detroit and Portland teams and project leads to support powertrain product and vehicle product launches through validation of content in Reliability Growth (RG) vehicles

  • Support HDEP and MDES Sustaining activities through validation on RG vehicles

  • Maintain RG vehicle run plan and provide Powertrain Mechatronics support including data logging, fault code communication/investigation, SW/Cal/Parameter management and feature/function validation planning

  • Support special test requests and test events not limited to: DTPE summer and winter test, Corp2/3 PVE Functional vehicle troubleshooting & shakedowns

  • Communicate team status to Detroit management and raise issues as necessary

  • Represent team in Detroit and Portland cross functional meetings and cascade organizational news and information to the team

  • Mentor Powertrain Mechatronics team members and interns in core team functions

  • Perform team supervisory tasks such as work planning and prioritization

Bachelor’s degree with 2 years of related experience OR an associate’s degree with 4 years of related experience OR 8 years of related experience required

At least 1 year of group leader, project lead, or mentoring experience required


Experience with MATLAB, Simulink, CANape, and CANalyzer

At least 1 year of group leader, project lead, or mentoring experience

Experience applying relevant engineering concepts and tools

Understanding of engineering processes and downstream impacts

Experience identifying and solving the root cause of complex problems

Ability to work effectively across diverse cultures and locations

Proficiency in Microsoft Office required

Demonstrated good teamwork skills

Demonstrated strong verbal and written skills

Experience implementing continuous improvement initiatives in area of responsibility
