About the Position:The position serves in the Portland District GIS, CAD, Mapping and Central Files Section. The Section resides in the Engineering & Construction Technical Resource Branch and consists of a diverse group of professionals who support the District's technical mission. We provide support and services for multiple automated information systems, including Computer Aided Drafting, Geographic Information Systems, and business systems that support resourcing, workload forecast, scheduling, and product tracking.

As an IT Specialist (Data Management) in the GIS, CAD, Mapping and Central Files Section of the Engineering & Construction Division, you will:
- Use technical knowledge to program internal engineer management databases and associated applications/interfaces used for resourcing, workload forecast, and product tracking.
- Troubleshoot and resolve problems related to application/data entry interfaces and system software.
- Provide expertise in database management, database design, maintenance, and data query/analysis.
- Train and assist users of automated information systems.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For the GS-12, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
For the GS-11, you may qualify if your education meets the definitions below:
Education: 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D., or Ph.D. or equivalent Doctoral degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D., or Ph.D. or equivalent Doctoral degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
