Signature Graphics is a locally-owned, full-service heatset and coldset commercial printer with direct mail advertising and graphic design businesses located in NE Portland, Oregon with approximately 150 employees. Since opening in 1984, Signature has become one of the largest printers in the Pacific Northwest, and we are currently looking for Second Press Operators to assist the Press Operators in operating our Cold- and Heatset Web Offset Printing presses. POSITION PURPOSE The Second Press Operator assists the Press Operator with make-readies, press equipment operations, performing quality control functions and enforcing the safety rules. This position is a leadership role and will assist in directing the work the work activities of the press crewmembers to ensure productivity, quality and safety goals are met. This position also must have at least 1 ' 2 years of experience on multiple web, four-color coldset press and thorough knowledge of Web Press printing processes. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES Receives daily instructions from the Press Operator Examines job tickets, gathers any information or instruction to produce a quality product in compliance with job specifications and timelines Prepares press in an efficient and timely manner Installs Plates and Blankets efficiently Observes press operation to detect machine malfunctions Examines printed copy, adjust ink and water settings for ink density and accurate color match to proofing materials Makes web alignment / compensator and registration adjustments for proper position on paper Helps manage paper waste to reasonable levels Checks all skid tags and check off sheets for any missing information Verifies quantities, bundle counts, turns, and proper stacking configuration Communicates any pertinent information to the Second Press Operator on the following shift Follows all directions and quality control procedures that have been established by Signature Graphics either written or verbal, as to the operation of the equipment and the quality of the final product Performs general press maintenance and makes minor repairs and adjustments to the equipment when needed Compensation: Non-exempt (hourly) wage Benefits: Medical, dental and vision insurance, flexible spending account (FSA), paid time off (PTO), 401(k) plan Basic Qualifications Must follow safety guidelines at all times Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen and background check Other Duties Other duties as assigned including quality control and cleaning of work area Day shift, with overtime needed to support production deadlines and unanticipated events
