JOB SUMMARY

Underwriter for the Freddie Mac Small Balance Loan (SBL) program. Involves underwriting initial loan screening for quotes, and full underwriting for submittal to Freddie Mac for approval. Position is a centralized underwriting position, to be located in Seattle, Portland, Sacramento or San Francisco, and will report directly to the Senior Underwriter.

Responsible for performing all due diligence necessary to make informed recommendation to loan committee regarding the risks and mitigates for securing multifamily property loans.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reviews field underwriting submissions to ensure internal credit quality and investor compliance.

Presents transaction for loan committee approval.

Preparation of Borrower credit analysis including determination of net worth, liquidity, overall financial strength and acceptability of proposed borrower structure.

Acts as primary liaison between loan producer, investor, legal counsel and closing officer throughout the underwriting process.

Performs property and market level due diligence, reviews third party reports and legal documents to ensure compliance with internal credit tolerances as well as investor requirements.

Other related tasks include credit and real estate analysis, processing incoming exhibits and preparing final delivery of investor packages.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

May assist in supervisory responsibilities of the Underwriting Analyst in this position. Coordinates and assigns tasks to co-workers within a work unit and/or project team. Leads project teams and/or plan, and supervise assignments of lower level employees. May have responsibility for identifying training needs, tracking performance, coaching, and motivating a work unit and/or group.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university required. Concentration in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Real Estate or other related subject preferred. Minimum two years multi-family Underwriting experience.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational and analytical skills. Ability to provide efficient, timely, reliable and courteous service to customers. Ability to effectively present information.

FINANCIAL KNOWLEDGE

Requires advanced knowledge of financial terms and principles. Ability to calculate intermediate figures such as percentages, discounts, and commissions. Conducts advanced financial analysis.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret complex documents. Ability to solve problems involving several options in situations. Requires advanced analytical and quantitative skills.

OTHER SKILLS and/or ABILITIES

Proficient in common Adobe and Microsoft applications including: Word, PowerPoint and Excel. Knowledge and understanding of the principles and procedures for underwriting and processing of small balance multifamily loans, especially Freddie Mac, essential. Will be required to travel as needed.
