Oregon Health & Science University Biomedical Equipment Technician 2 in Beaverton, Oregon
The Oregon National Primate Research Center (ONPRC) is located 12 miles west of the OHSU main campus, and sits on 162 acres of land featuring forested areas, research and administration buildings, indoor and outdoor animal housing, a pond, and 2-mile perimeter walking path. Our mission is to improve human health and the quality of life through the support of nonhuman primate research programs that advance our knowledge of the causes, preventions, treatments, and cures of debilitating diseases.
The Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) 2 will perform highly skilled work of considerable difficulty, performing repairs and services on all medical and laboratory equipment at the OHSU West Campus. This is the second of a three level series. The BMET 2 is distinguished from the lower level by the assignment of more advanced technology, by the degree of complexity and the scope of projects, repairs and installations performed, and the added responsibilities of technical consultation to PIs and research staff.
The BMET 2 will work independently. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: coordinating and performing major equipment projects and repairs which may require in-depth troubleshooting and analysis; independently diagnose and correct (within limits of ability and authority) minor or major malfunctions in laboratory equipment and provide technical advice to Principal Investigators and research staff.
The incumbent will be required to work in security controlled labs and animal areas with potential exposure to hazardous materials; risk of exposure to zoonotic agents by direct contact with animals or their tissues and body fluids, or by contact with equipment contaminated by animals or their tissues and body fluids; exposure to biological, potentially hazardous chemicals and sanitizing chemicals may be require staff to wear a face mask or respirator and/or self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
Associate’s degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology or an equivalent combination of training and experience
3 – 5 years of BMET experience
Able to provide technical advice to assist researchers and DCM personnel in pre-purchase planning and selection of equipment
Certification by the ICC/USCC as a Certified BMET
Valid Driver's License and the ability to drive ONPRC vehicles on and off campus
Work in security controlled labs and animal areas with potential exposure to hazardous materials, smells, dust, fumes, inclement weather, climbing, stooping, heavy lifting and working at heights and around construction and operating equipment
Ability to work in areas where there is risk of exposure to zoonotic agents by direct contact with animals or their tissues and body fluids, or by contact with equipment contaminated by animals or their tissues and body fluids
Ability to work where there is risk of exposure to biological, potentially hazardous chemicals and sanitizing chemicals may be require staff to wear a face mask or respirator and/or self-contained breathing apparatus
Lift and carry objects weighing up to 75 lbs to approximately shoulder height
Able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation
Associate’s degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology
