Nike Cloud Intelligence Engineer in Beaverton, Oregon

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Mathematics, Business Administration, or a related field; or, an equivalent combination of education and related work experience.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with implementation, operations, maintenance of IT systems and/or administration of software functions in multi-platform and multi-system environments.

  • Experience developing and collaborating with APIs with authentication frameworks like OAuth and SMART

  • Must be proficient in advanced programming skills and proficient in one or more of the following languages (including but not limited to): Python, C#, C++, Java, JavaScript, perl, shell script.

  • Should have exposure to or some experience with the following: HTML, CSS, MYSQL

  • Previous experience defining, crafting, and supporting monitoring dashboards

  • Experience working across departments voicing support for and communicating observability expertise and standards

  • Possess practical knowledge and appreciation of various aspects of distributed service design, including messaging protocols, caching strategies and autonomous software design practices.

  • Experience or understanding of dashboard/search platforms such as Grafana, Tableau, Snowflake, etc.

  • Experience with monitoring and observability tools and methodology of products such as; Splunk (primary), ElasticSearch, SumoLogic, FluentD, New Relic (primary), SignalFX, AppDynamics, Dynatrace, Solarwinds (primary), Nagios, CollectD, New Relic Infrastructure, StatsD, Graphite, Grafana, Prometheus, BigPanda, etc.

  • Strong understanding of Open Systems Interconnection model (OSI model).

  • Solid understanding of performance metrics, KPI’s, statistical calculations, machine learning, and correlation.

  • Ability to tackle problems across the entire stack - operating systems (Linux/unix/windows), software, application, and network.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to interact with management and all teams involved in the operational or development process

  • Experience with a variety of modern distributed software tools, e. g. service discovery, containerization, messaging.

  • Have extensive experience with metrics and logging libraries and aggregators, data analysis and visualization tools.

  • Have a passion for data driven decision making using our tools, as well as automating anything and everything.


As a Cloud Intelligence Engineer, you’ll work with a variety of hardworking Nike teammates and serve as a driving force for ensuring our monitoring and observability products are interoperable providing the benefits needed of a fully functioning platform.

Serve in the role of technical domain specialist, refining existing functional requirements for monitoring and event management tools and participate in the development of a coordinated monitoring/event management tooling strategy and architecture.

  • Responsible for the set-up, maintenance and ongoing development of continuous build/ integrations with our CI/CD pipeline for observability products.

  • Responsible for interoperability across our suite of monitoring and observability tools.

  • Provide the required expertise in the interoperability field for the implementation of monitoring and observability related projects

  • Assess system(s) design and development from an interoperability viewpoint and make needed recommendations to be actioned on

  • Responsible for the definition and delivery of activities on the monitoring roadmap.

  • Collaborate with engineering teams, application developers, management and infrastructure teams to assess near- and long-term observability integration needs.

  • Participate in design documentation of supervising related solutions.

  • Plan, engineer, and implement robust and efficient computing environments.

  • Implement, maintain, and consult on the observability and monitoring framework that supports the needs of multiple internal partners.

  • Keep an eye on the emerging observability tools, trends and methodologies, and continuously improve our existing systems and processes.

  • Define standards across our best-of-breed portfolio of tools with visualizing metrics, logs, traces, and events in a unified view.

  • Participate in process development with our Engineering and Development teams.
