Job Summary/Purpose:

To provide instruction to students in the Paramedicine program, develop curriculum, assess student learning, and provide student advising.

Terms of Employment

• Full-time Faculty, 1.0 FTE, Exempt. This is a fulltime, tenure-track probationary position commencing September 2018. Hours of work may include evening or weekend teaching assignments. • $48,350 – $57,850 per year depending on experience. • Represented by the Faculty Forum Collective Bargaining Agreement. • Initial assignment will be at the Bend Campus. • Official transcripts are required upon hire. Applicants anticipating Degree completion must supply a letter from his/her university stating the degree title and that the degree will be granted by that date. • Upon hire, must pass criminal background check and/or driving history; only information relevant to the position will be considered. • May include travel throughout the College district.

Essential Functions:

  1. Provide instruction in the Paramedic Program, using approved course outcomes. Teaching assignments may be during the day (including early morning), evening, or weekend, and could include classes taught at any of the College campuses (i.e. Bend, Madras, Prineville, Redmond, online, or other).
  2. Provide student advising and assistance in areas of course selection, transfer, career planning, job placement and employment follow-up.
  3. Hold at least five scheduled office hours per week for student help sessions and program assistance.
  4. Participate in department meetings, curriculum revision, course assessment, program assessment, and academic program review.
  5. Engage in regular professional growth activities, remain current in the field, and maintain current credentials or licensures as required by the program.
  6. Participate in service to the college. This may include participating in College committees, taskforces, peer teams, or other activities.
  7. Provide meaningful, professional service to the community, businesses, public agencies, and other organizations.
  8. Perform other essential job functions as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS SPECIFIC TO Assistant Professor of Paramedicine
1. Provide leadership in the EMS and Structural Fire programs including course/program planning, budgeting, scheduling of classes and labs, and hiring and evaluating instructors and part-time employees. 2. Maintain positive community relations and continuing education opportunities for our regional agencies including attendance at monthly East Cascades Emergency Medical Services (ECEMS) meetings, the state EMS Consortium meetings, Central Oregon Fire Instructor Association (COFIA) , Central Oregon Fire Chiefs Association (COFCA), and Fire and Emergency Services Higher Education (FESHE).
3. Plan and coordinate the Public Safety Advisory Committee. 4. Oversee schedules, budgets and supervision of CPR, PHTLS, ACLS, PALS, and other designated coursework outside of the academic schedule. 5. Stay current with State and National Accreditation standards and manage re-accreditations when required. 6. Work with DHS to set up and administer EMT basic exams on a yearly basis. 7. Provide all necessary paperwork required by DHS for state-approved EMT basic, EMT Intermediate, and paramedic course. 8. Work together with our regional partners to provide student affiliations and clinical placements for students to complete their program requirements.

  1. Thorough knowledge in the field of Emergency Medical Services and demonstrated ability to apply this knowledge.
  2. Thorough knowledge of National EMS educational standards.
  3. Thorough knowledge of the State of Oregon EMS rules and standards.
  4. Ability to adapt and use a variety of teaching and assessment techniques including the use of technology to enhance student success.
  5. Ability to observe, direct, and oversee students ensuring safety in the classroom or laboratory.
  6. Ability to work with and present various curriculum concepts to a wide range of students with varying diverse backgrounds, abilities, and learning styles.
  7. Ability to effectively use Microsoft office suite, various course management systems, technology to teach traditional, hybrid, or online courses and other technology used in the instruction setting.
  8. Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with diverse students, staff, and community members.
  9. Ability to provide services to students in a manner which does not discriminate as to race, creed, religion, color, national origin, disability, age, sex, sexual preference or marital status.
  10. Willingness to travel and or teach at various hours and campus locations, as required.
  11. Ability to foster a collaborative atmosphere among students and the willingness to work as a member of a team with faculty.

Physical Demands and Other Ergonomic Requirements:

Ability to work in classroom and office environments using computers, white boards, projectors, and other basic office equipment. All individuals are required to be able to perform the essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution.

  2. Relevant experience working in the field of Paramedicine
