Opportunity The bilingual (Spanish/English) healthcare interpreter performs duties necessary to ensure efficient clinic operations; assists with communication between Spanish speaking patients and staff by interpreting accurately and faithfully for them. Provides sight-translation of relevant materials to enhance patients' and families' comprehension of medical procedures, treatment, discharge instructions, patient and family education, and follow-up care. Translates written documents as needed. Responsibilities ' Interprets conversations between staff and Spanish-speaking patients and friends/family accurately and faithfully. ' Coordinates interpreter needs and serves as language access point of contact for assigned region. This includes the coordination of phone, VRI, and dual role interpreters. ' Translate patient instructions and AVS (not to include questionnaires, acquiring consent or authorization, legal documents or the documentation of medical records) at site level as needed. ' Written translation of short, basic patient instructions. Skills & Knowledge Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Advanced Spanish/English oral and written skills required; understanding and acceptance of the National Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice for Interpreters in Health Care; able to work independently and with team members; able to prioritize needs; able to learn and efficiently use various computer programs. Current Oregon Health Authority (OHA), Health Care Interpreter (HCI) registration/certification or proof of language proficiency to support future (OHA) (HCI) registration. Language skill requirement or preference: Able to speak Spanish preferred. Able to read Spanish preferred. Able to write Spanish preferred.
