Thermo Fisher Scientific Applications Scientist in Hillsboro, Oregon


Perform high quality Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) product demonstrations, including the development of new techniques and applications for partners and customers, particularly those in the Materials Science Marketplace.

Conduct customer training and translate customer needs into workable solutions.

Provide technical product assistance with all phases of the sales cycle.

Cultivate positive customer relationships and act as a high-level customer interface for specific instrument and applications issues, explaining complex technology details, giving in-depth technical presentations, and assisting in applications development.

Provide customer support and applications training post sales cycle and after instrument has been installed.

Provide continuous feedback to the product groups on system performance, features, and potential problems while collaborating with marketing and development groups on future product developments.


Master's Degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or related technical field plus 2 years in the Materials Science Marketplace, or related experience. Employer also accepts a Bachelor's degree plus 4 years of experience as an equivalent alternative.

Must have experience or knowledge of:

TEM/STEM systems;

Advanced analytical techniques (EDS, EELS, EFTEM);

Corrected (both probe and image) systems;

Analytical techniques and advanced processing image skills (including offline software packages);

Diffraction studies of materials via TEM/STEM;

3D Tomography (TEM, STEM and EDS);

TEM sample preparation using a FIBSEM and

SEM imaging.


50% travel, domestic and international to APAC and EMEA.
