This role can be based at our sites in Carlsbad, CA (San Diego area), Waltham, MA (Boston area), South San Francisco, Hillsborough, OR (Portland area) or Austin, TX where the IP team has critical mass. Other locations may be possible for exceptional candidates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support litigation and other adversarial matters in close partnership with internal legal and business teams and outside counsel.

  • Manage and/or support litigation projects (e.g., litigation holds; document collection, review and production; witness interviews; deposition prep; e-filing and service of documents; patent family searches; etc.).

  • Manage and/or support IP and other legal department projects (e.g., due diligence; internal investigation; and process improvement).

  • Manage project and case deadlines, files and records. Coordinate and lead meetings on responsible matters; assist with organizing departmental meetings.

  • Establish strong cross-functional working relationships at all levels within a global organization to drive a culture of compliance and collaboration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (preferably in business administration, legal studies, communications, or a similar or related discipline), or the equivalent knowledge and experience.

  • Minimum of 3+ years of complex commercial litigation experience at a major law firm or in-house legal department. Preference for experience supporting patent litigation or other types of sophisticated IP disputes.

  • At least 2 years of experience with eDiscovery tools and working knowledge of federal, state and local civil procedure rules.

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills, strong initiative, results-orientation, collaborative/team instinct, and can-do attitude.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex, fast-moving projects and effectively support outside and in-house legal teams.

  • Desire to learn new skills and step outside traditional paralegal tasks including exposure to or interest in project management frameworks.
