The Water Resource Recovery Operations & Services Department is seeking a Plant Maintenance Technician Trainee. This position trains in and performs work in the maintenance and repair of equipment and machinery in wastewater treatment plants and pump stations. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Performed under close supervision and in a developmental capacity. (The essential functions listed below are not intended to reflect all duties that may be assigned to this classification. The District may augment duties and/or essential functions at its discretion. Additionally, some incumbents may not perform all Essential Functions.) Train in troubleshooting and performing reactive mechanical repairs, replacements, and modifications on high cost/high risk mechanical equipment located in District treatment plants, pump stations, and labs such as pumps, boilers, bar screens, clarifiers, centrifuges, digesters, filters, and blowers. Learn to perform scheduled preventive maintenance on mechanical equipment to extend life and reliability or monitor current condition. Train in troubleshooting and performing repairs, replacements, and modifications on HVAC/R equipment and systems. Learn to perform scheduled preventative maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment in a non-licensed capacity; train in performing chemical testing and maintenance of treated water loops. Learn to efficiently assess problems in order to recommend cost effective solutions, such as repair vs. replacement, in-house vs. out-sourced repair. Learn to complete maintenance and repair records; assist with requisitioning and/or purchasing parts, tools, and supplies as needed. Keeps assigned area(s) clean and hazard-free; uses safe work practices and follows District safety policies and procedures. EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES: Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledges, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required KSAs would be: Experience in assisting with mechanical trades such as plant maintenance technicians, millwrights, machinists, plumbers, pipe fitters, welders, or building maintenance technicians where the employee gains experience with mechanic's tools, measuring instruments, and basic maintenance and repair procedures on a variety of mechanical equipment; or Trade classes in mechanical engineering technology or related fields. CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS: Must possess and maintain a valid state issued driver's license at time of appointment.
