Oracle Senior Director, Service Delivery, Managed Cloud Services in Hillsboro, Oregon

Manage a team that designs, develops, troubleshoots and debugs software programs for databases, applications, tools, networks etc. As a Senior Director of the software engineering division, you will apply your extensive knowledge of software architecture to manage software development tasks associated with developing, debugging or designing software applications, operating systems and databases according to current and future design specifications. Build enhancements within an existing software architecture and envision improvements to the architecture. Directs and ensures the implementation of operational policies through subordinate managers Interacts internally and externally with executive management involving negotiation of difficult matters to influence policy. Functional expertise and broad company knowledge. Demonstrated leadership and people management skills. Strong communication skills, analytical skills, thorough understanding of product development. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 8 or more years of software engineering or related experience. This is a remote/office based position which may be performed anywhere in the United States except for within the state of Colorado. As we work to modernize the OMCS product offering and integrate it more closely with OCI, we need a strong Service Delivery leader to lead the charge on bringing best-in-breed software-first service delivery processes to our team. This person will lead a team of talented individuals and transform it into a software-first organization that embraces Site Reliability Engineering as the new normal. The team: This position is part of the leadership team responsible for the design, delivery and operation of managed application services built on top of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. As part of our overall customer success organization, it is tightly integrated with our service operations and customer support teams. The Senior Director, Service Delivery, Managed Cloud Services will lead and evolve a team of talented individuals that will establish excellence for a software-driven modern services organization. Where ticket-based, human-executed behavior was once the norm, you understand that modern quality services need to be software driven. You will establish the new normal, emphasizing a culture of problem solvers that want to continuously improve service quality through code, and building around the Site Reliability Engineer mantra away from console operators. The ideal candidate will have a diverse background spanning technology principles to business execution. Ownership of, and accountability to, results should not only be expected, but motivational. We deliver complex services across multiple disciplines, including core OCI services, traditional and PaaS middle tier technologies, and enterprise applications stacks. You should have had exposure to similar environments, and are comfortable guiding a team towards best practices and service excellence. You are data-driven, and demonstrate sound decision making based on the data at hand. You are a passionate, articulate, driven leader that believes leading by example is the only way to successful outcome. Specific responsibilities and experience: * Take on responsibility of an existing team that delivers critical managed services on OCI for large, complex customers. You will be the CEO of the team. * Evolve the team from system administrators that have coding skills to Site Reliability Engineers that solve problems through code. * Understand how both internal and external customers need to engage with our managed services. With this knowledge, build a strategy to evolve your business to be more valuable to our customers. * Work collaboratively and cross-functionally with our other Managed Cloud Services leaders to leverage work already in place and innovate where value can be added. * Engender a continuous-improvement culture within the team to constantly challenge best approaches to outcomes. * Influence the strategic directions of OCI Managed Cloud Services informed by customers, the changing cloud landscape, and the realities of delivering successful Managed Cloud Services on OCI. * Hands on – belief that leading by example is the only way to success. * Have strong business acumen, and apply that knowledge to inform the best approaches that balance technical excellence, speed of execution, and cost. IDEAL EXPERIENCE * Experience building, running, mentoring and enabling a team of technical professionals. Experience directly managing teams of 200 or more professionals. * Proven ability to guide a team that will map technological approaches to solve complex business problems. * Background operating in a cloud service provider. * Demonstrated creative problem solving; career proof that complex business tradeoffs often need to be made and you’re exceptional in this regard. * Proven ability to decompose complex problems from theoretical “white-space” to concrete, executable plans. * Demonstrated ability to think from a business/outcome perspective and translate that into executable technical plans. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills. The candidate in this role must be comfortable presenting to internal and external executive stakeholders. As this is a customer-facing role, and you must have demonstrated success communicating complex topics clearly and with authority thereby engendering trust. * A record of building strong collaborative relationships across organizational boundaries (e.g. into sales, support, sister engineering teams, etc.). * A career learner – proof that you’re always looking for “better” and have the ability to absorb and apply new skills quickly.
