The Adolescent Counselor requires 3 or more years of experience in the field. Must be a team player and have good communication skills. Time Management will be very important. This role will be highly specialized and focuses on providing support and guidance to young people struggling with substance abuse issues. The Adolescent Counselor will be supporting people at a difficult time in their lives. This role needs a person that cares and wants to make a difference in a young person's life. Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to: ' The primary goal is to focus all efforts on providing guidance and techniques to eliminate a drug, alcohol, or other addiction at its root. ' Work with the adolescent to identify the underlying causes for what led to seeking out the substance in question to begin with, whether the urge stems from peer pressure, family problems, trouble at school, or elsewhere. ' Provide assessments and treatment plans to help the clients through their recovery and provide a safe, nonjudgmental environment for the client to air out any frustrations, fears, or other concerns. ' Conduct individual therapy and group therapy ' Work with the families and build solutions together. Demonstrate skill in having control of a therapy session when it becomes too emotionally charged. ' Must have true passion for helping young people ' Issues can be with drugs, alcohol and other substance abuse such as food ' Additional duties as assigned Requirements/Education: ' Adolescent substance abuse counselors work with young clients to better understand the motivation behind their issues and subsequently to modify adolescent approaches to triggers with the ultimate aim of modification of the abusive behaviors. ' You will work with teens on a one-to-one basis, in small groups with families or in group counseling sessions with several clients. ' Counselors in this field need to be able to relate to their clients, take an interest in their passions and discuss things of interest to them. ' Must have an Associate's Degree or higher.
