Job Title: Kitchen Grill Cook

Department: Restaurant

Shift: Flexible schedule - includes weekends

Wage: starts at $18.00 an hour

Position Overview: The Kitchen Grill Cook is responsible for ensuring that customers have an exceptional experience while at the Bob’s Red Mill Whole Grain Store, Restaurant, & Bakery. The Kitchen Grill Cook is responsible for assisting in prepping and cooking a full breakfast and lunch line with a variety of whole grain, wheat free and vegan options to spec in our Whole Grain Store, Restaurant, & Bakery.

The Kitchen Grill Cook must work to provide a safe and respectful environment for employees and customers. It is critical that this person’s actions, behaviors, and words align with S.E.R.V.I.C.E. standards and the WGS Mission and Values.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Prepares ingredients by washing and chopping vegetables, cutting meat, etc. to specs.

  • Cooks menu items per recipe standards in a timely, consistent accurate manner.

  • Follows in-house recipes and specs for all menu items.

  • Ensures that all allergy and dietary restrictions on the ticket have been addressed.

  • Clearly communicates with the kitchen expo team ensuring that all food items are correct.

  • Keeps kitchen, walk-in and pit areas clean and deliveries are put away.

  • Complies with all nutrition and sanitation guidelines.

  • Maintains sanitation standards by sanitizing prep areas before and after use and makes sure that all critical equipment is kept clean.

  • Sets-up and stocks stations with necessary supplies, continues to restock supplies for line cooks throughout the day.

  • Safely uses kitchen equipment and keeps up equipment maintenance.

  • Ensures food/merchandise is properly stocked, labeled, and rotated in workstations and throughout the kitchen.

  • Must remain friendly and service oriented, even during times of long lines and high traffic.

  • Ensures a clean, organized, safe, and respectful environment for guests and employees.

  • Confronts and resolves difficult situations in a proactive, objective, professional, and solution-oriented manner.

  • Embraces change by being open to new ideas.

  • Communicates effectively with individuals, groups, peers, management, and the general public.

  • Maintains food knowledge on all Bob’s Red Mill offerings and confidently and accurately communicating that knowledge to customers.

  • Complies with all company policies and procedures and operates all equipment in a safe and food-safe manner.

  • Complies with Bob’s Red Mill food safety policies and procedures including adherence to FDA regulations and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).

  • Performs other tasks and duties as assigned.

  • Be willing to assist in other departments as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • This position reports to the Restaurant Manager.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Possesses knowledge of safe food-handling procedures, sanitary cooking conditions, proper hand washing techniques and rules for securing hair.

  • Ability to move quickly and work in a fast paced environment.

  • Demonstrates proper organizational, time management, and multi-tasking skills.

  • Demonstrates proper communication skills.

  • Flexibility to work around customer demands.

  • Possesses a positive and professional attitude and has a team player philosophy.

  • Demonstrates the ability to handle critical feedback in a positive manner and learns from mistakes during the training process.


  • 3 or more years of experience in a fast paced kitchen environment required.

  • 1 or more years of breakfast cooking experience required.

  • Previous experience in a commercial kitchen preferred.

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred

  • Must be able to obtain/possess a Food Handler’s Card

  • Must be available to work weekends.

Physical Demands:

  • Position requires continued walking or standing for long periods up to 2 hours at a time.

  • Position requires the ability to bend, squat, and kneeling.

  • Position requires the ability to lift up to 25lb on a regular basis.

Work Environment:

  • The primary work environment for this position is within a large commercial kitchen.

  • May encounter temperatures ranging from 32 degrees F. within a cooler to 425 degrees F. around cooking equipment.
