Bob's Red Mill Natural Foods Server - Part-Time in Milwaukie, Oregon

Job Title: Server

Department: Restaurant

Shift: Flexible schedule - includes weekends

Wage: $13.25 an hour

Position Overview: The Server is responsible for ensuring that customers have an exceptional experience while at the Bob’s Red Mill Whole Grain Store, Restaurant, & Bakery. This position will assist customers by taking orders, serving food and assisting customers with drink service as needed in a fast paced casual setting. The Server I will also assist with pre-busing and checking in with customers while maintaining a clean dining area for guest.

The Server must work to provide a safe and respectful environment for employees and customers. It is critical that this person’s actions, behaviors, and words align with S.E.R.V.I.C.E. standards and the WGS Mission and Values.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Ensures customers are timely greeted and kindly welcomed.

  • Recommend, select, and help customers with menu options based on customer needs and desires.

  • Share product knowledge enthusiastically and accurately to elevate service and increase sales.

  • Operate cash register with a high level of accuracy.

  • Takes accurate orders in a timely manner.

  • Stock shelves and insures proper merchandise rotation.

  • Ensure food/merchandise is properly tagged, stickered, and displayed.

  • Must remain friendly and service oriented, even during times of long lines and high traffic.

  • Assists with setting tables and rearranging tables to accommodate large groups.

  • Ensure a clean, organized, safe, and respectful environment for guests and employees.

  • Cleans and restock workstations/ beverage stations and ensure all equipment is sanitized.

  • Maintain a clean and organized store/restaurant.

  • Engage customers in a sincere, friendly and professional manner, asking about their food preference, making suggestions when appropriate while noting allergies.

  • Confront and resolve difficult situations in a proactive, objective, professional, and solution-oriented manner.

  • Ensures that the company’s brand is properly reflected by keeping a well maintained, clean, well-organized and stocked counter and food window area.

  • Embrace change by being open to new ideas.

  • Communicate effectively with individuals, groups, peers, management, and the general public.

  • Maintains food knowledge on all Bob’s Red Mill offerings and confidently and accurately communicating that knowledge to customers.

  • Complies with all company policies and procedures and operates all equipment in a safe and food-safe manner.

  • Complies with Bob’s Red Mill food safety policies and procedures including adherence to FDA regulations and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).

  • Performs other tasks and duties as assigned.

  • Be willing to assist in other departments as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • This position has no supervisor responsibilities and reports to the restaurant manager.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Possesses knowledge of safe food-handling procedures, sanitary cooking conditions, proper hand washing techniques and rules for securing hair.

  • Ability to move quickly and work in a fast paced environment.

  • Demonstrates proper organizational, time management, and multi-tasking skills.

  • Possesses a positive and professional attitude and has a team player philosophy.

  • Demonstrates the ability to handle critical feedback in a positive manner and learns from mistakes during the training process.

  • Demonstrates the ability to handle complaints and resolve conflicts with guests and staff.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.

  • Possesses a Food Handlers Certificate required

  • 1 year of experience in a fast paced restaurant or retail environment required.

  • Must be available to work weekends.

  • Must be able to obtain an OLCC service permit.

Physical Demands:

  • Position routinely requires walking or standing for long periods up to 2 hours at a time

  • Position requires ability to bend, squat and climb stairs frequently with a serving tray.

  • Position requires the ability to lift up to 50lb

Work Environment:

  • The primary work environment for this position is within the restaurant and outdoor seating area as weather permits.
