Work Unit Description

The Assistant Professor shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service. It is anticipated the position will be made up of the following components: Clinical, Teaching, Research/Academic and In-Patient Service at the East Portland and Gresham locations.

Functions/Duties of Position

The Assistant Professor will work to support the mission, goals and objectives of OHSU, The Knight Cancer Institute, Community Hematology Oncology and the School of Medicine. The Assistant Professor duties will include:

  • Caring for patients with hematologic and oncologic disease at the East Portland and Gresham locations
  • Participating with other faculty on disease specific provider teams
  • Establishing and maintaining a program of scholarly activity directed toward improved understanding of the causes, detection and treatment of hematologic and oncologic disease
  • Participating in administrative committees and councils of OHSU as approved by the Chair and Division Head
  • Engaging in public service through consultative activities with non-university groups with knowledge and consent of the Chair and Division Head
  • Participating, as desired, in the education of medical students and house staff in accordance with assignments to the department by the Curriculum Committee and Chair
  • Participating, as desired, in clinical, translational, and bench research activities
Job Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • MD, MD/PhD
  • Medical oncologist/hematologist licensed to practice medicine in Washington and Oregon
  • Board certified in Internal Medicine
  • Board certified/board eligible in medical oncology/hematology with a desire to practice in a community based clinical environment as part of an academic health care system
  • Physician leadership experience
  • Demonstrable physician experience with the background, focus, and drive to excel
  • Proven ability to provide excellent clinical care to cancer patients in the community setting
