Oregon Health & Science University Assistant Program Director, Nurse Anesthesia Program in Portland, Oregon

The Nurse Anesthesia Program educates registered nurses with critical care experience to the advanced practice specialty of anesthesia. The program provides nurse anesthesia students with a solid foundation in scientific knowledge, clinical skills, and professional accountability.

The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service.

School of Nursing faculty members who have advanced practice specialization (nurse practitioner, nurse-midwife, clinical nurse specialist or nurse anesthetist) may function in all of the missions of the School. Scholarly teaching is an expectation for all. The faculty member must be nationally certified and state licensed. If practice is a part of the FTE assignment, the faculty member must also be credentialed and privileged as a member of the OHSU Professional Staff in accordance with the specialty bylaws. The faculty member will provide services in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service. The advanced practice faculty member is expected to comply with scope of practice, other laws, regulations, OHSU and SON policy, and other applicable professional standards of practice.

  • Clinical Activities: Practice that emanates from the School of Nursing is expected to support the teaching and research missions of the School. In the practice environment, teaching may occur concurrently with clinical activities. This position includes clinical practice as negotiated. The faculty position may include clinical supervision of SRNAs, as well as personal clinical practice.

  • Scholarly Activities: Scholarship in teaching and practice is expected for all APN faculty. The activities may include development of evidence-based guidelines, evaluation of clinical programs and/or clinical activities, supervision of student DNP projects, and data collection for quality initiatives. This position may include research activities as negotiated.

  • Education Activities: Teaching graduate nursing students in the Nurse Anesthesia program. This includes teaching, curriculum development, advising, and mentoring of students. Activities include didactic classroom teaching, distance education and simulation. Assists in faculty development and orientation of new faculty, as needed.

  • Service Activities: These activities could include faculty meetings, committee membership, professional activities and other responsibilities as assigned by the Program or Academic Director.

  • Administrative Activities: The Assistant Program Director assists the Program Director with administrative duties of the Nurse Anesthesia Program as assigned. Participates in annual formal review of curriculum and evaluation data from the nurse anesthesia master evaluation plan and assists in preparation of required administrative reports. Assists in review of curriculum and processes to ensure compliance with COA/CCNA guidelines. Participates in review of applicants and serves on admissions committee.

  • Other Activities: The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service.

Doctoral degree in nursing

Oregon RN license, national certification as a CRNA, and current CPR card.

Minimum of five years of clinical practice experience in the CRNA role.

Teaching experience, especially at the APN level, preferred.
