WorkSource Oregon Associate Director of Grounds in PORTLAND, Oregon

Job Purpose Responsible for the management of all campus services related to sustainable general grounds maintenance activities. Responsibilities include planning, organizing and directing the day-to-day work programs to provide levels of excellence on the main campus and out-lying properties. The manager must lead in a manner consistent with the best in environmental and sustainable practices. Work closely with the AVP Facilities in the development and implementation of a campus landscape plan. Responsibilities also include the coordination of grounds maintenance activities with other campus services and facilities services sections, and with various College departments. What You'll Do Personnel Management: Recruit, select, train, assign, schedule, coach, counsel and discipline employees, including staff and student workers. Communicate job expectations; plan, monitor, appraise and review job contributions. Enforce College policies and procedures. Maintain employee engagement and assist with professional development. Develop, formalize, and implement both short-term and long-term plans, goals, and objectives for campus grounds and maintenance. Evaluates and verifies employee performance through the review of completed work assignments and work techniques. Maintenance planning: Recommends to the Director of Operations for planning, development, prioritizing and management of sustainable and world-class grounds which is done with managing maintenance tasks and horticultural programs in accord with the seasonal calendar, College calendar, and current weather conditions to assure that appearance, plant health, cleanliness, and public safety are maintained on a daily basis. Implements a campus landscape plan and ongoing grounds work proactively and creatively. Proficient with the Facility Services Computerized Maintenance System and able to develop and run pertinent management reports re; schedule, operations, safety, general landscape appearance and investment, Historical work, etc. Vendors: Consults, coordinates and plans with numerous College vendors and departments to provide support for a wide variety of events, programs, official functions, recreational services. Manages, monitors and coordinates such contract services with vendors to best suit the needs of the College. Fleet management: oversee the fleet mechanic duties of maintaining the vehicle maintenance and replacement program of 75+ campus vehicles and numerous facilities equipment maintenance. Must Haves High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) Minimum of 5-years of Groundskeeping or Landscape Management experience with 5-years of Grounds supervisory experience is required. Oregon Pesticide Applicators license. Proven record managing a grounds crew in a campus environment. Technical knowledge of organic, sustainable and environmentally friendly grounds management and horticultural practices as related to the Lewis & Clark campus. Ability to communicate sustainable and environmentally friendly techniques to staff, students, and others. Understanding of all laws relating to pesticide use in Oregon.
