Work Unit Description
Outpatient Care Unit is an environment for patients who has a surgical or procedural intervention that require recovery up to two midnights.
Center of Health and Healing Building 2 will have procedural and surgical patients with recoveries and case start times late in the afternoon to stay into the evening or till the next day for observation before being discharged.
The patient is generally medically stable and requires medical and nursing interventions such as pain management, intravenous fluids, respiratory care, antibiotics, remote telemetry, pulse oximetry monitoring, and wound/drain management. Emphasis on discharge teaching for successfully transitioning patients back to their home environment is a focus of this unit.
The CHH Building 2 Outpatient Care Unit will accept patients at least 18 years of age in day patient status after a surgical or other procedure who have met phase 1 recovery criteria in a post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) setting. The units primarily service the following surgical teams: General Surgery (Red/Gold/Blue/Green), ENT, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Plastic Surgery, Nephrology, Urology, Gynecology and Uro-Gynecology, and Vascular. Other patients may be accepted after Interventional Radiology, Cardiac Cath, Electrophysiology or GI procedures. Also considering the possible expansion to medical observation for oncology patients receiving treatment.

- Schedules: Day shift 12 hours (0700-1930) or Night shift 12 hours (1900-0730) or one 12 hour shift per week and Sundays 0700-1100
- Projected Start: March 2019

Functions/Duties of Position
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) performs delegated clinical and administrative duties within the supervising physician’s scope of practice consistent with the CNA’s education, training, and demonstrated competency. This includes taking and recording vital signs, preparing exam rooms, preparing instruments and scopes for sterilization, transporting items to the sterile processing department, and assist providers when instructed. The CNA recognizes and addresses age-appropriate needs when caring for patients. In addition, the CNA assists in maintaining the practice environment in a clean, orderly condition. Functions as an integral member of the Department by contributing to new ideas for improving customer service and reducing costs. The CNA provides high quality customer service to both external and internal customers that meet or exceeds the service standards of the health care industry. This duty includes prompt and professional communication efforts, face-to-face customer contact skills, flexible coverage of internal service needs and the continuous application of process improvement methods and skills for office services.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Oregon CNA license with CNA2 (Acute Care) Certification
- BLS required at the time of hire
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation
- At least 6 months working as a CNA directly in a medical office/clinical setting
- Previous OHSU experience
