PART-TIME, LIMITED DURATION POSITION
The Dental Assistant 2, under the supervision of a licensed dentist, provides chair side assistance to dentists, residents, dental students, and dental hygienists. Employees in this class may perform clerical duties such as scheduling appointments and checking in patients.

Two years of chair side dental assisting; OR
Completion of a Dental Assistant training program; OR
Equivalent combination of experience and training
Passed the DANB exam for dental assisting/x-ray certification (does not require CDA)
Certification by the Oregon State Board of Dentistry for Radiological Proficiency required
Current valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) card issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) required
General knowledge of: equipment, procedures, and terminology used in dentistry; sterile and aseptic technique, scrubbing, and disinfecting
Standards, principles, and practices related to radiological functions
Basic knowledge of: Professional and legal standards required to work as a dental assistant; routine clerical functions (e.g., scheduling treatment)
Skill in: operation of x-ray equipment and processing film; mixing amalgams, cements, and impression materials; chair side assistance including four-handed dentistry; performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation; safely manipulating equipment, instruments, and materials; answering questions for patients, students, and health care professionals; reading patient charts and extracting significant information
Ability to stand for four continuous hours a day
Ability to walk, sit, and stand for up to four continuous hours twice per day. Ability to bend, lift and carry up to 20 lbs
Completion of a Dental Assistant training program
Two years of chair side dental assisting
