Director, Threat Analysis Unit
Job Summary
VMWare is hiring a Director of Threat Research to lead and grow VMWare Carbon Black’s Threat Analysis Unit (TAU).
The Threat Analysis Unit is a global multidisciplinary team that forms the core of VMWare’s Security Business Unit’s research arm. TAU is focused on large scale malware and telemetry analysis, malware reversal, threat hunting, and applied threat intelligence. This team works very closely with VMWare’s product management, sales, and marketing teams.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Collaborate closely with the group’s many stakeholders, balancing Threat Research business needs ranging from applied threat research that evolves our security solutions to thought leadership publications and conference presentations
Grow and manage the globally distributed threat research team (TAU), managing personnel (i.e. hiring, career development, mentoring, performance management)
“Clear the trail” for the team to charge forward
Plan and prioritize work based on the rapidly changing threat landscape
Foster a collaborative work environment across the VMWare Security Business Unit
Requirements and Qualifications
B.S. in Computer Science or related fields, or equivalent infosec experience
Minimum of 7 years of managing threat research teams
Experience managing a virtual/geographically distributed engineering team
Knowledge of Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) fundamentals, in particular, agile and other user-driven design and rapid, iterative release approaches
Deep subject matter expertise in threat research, classification, and attribution. In particular, experience and understanding of how to apply threat intelligence to enterprise customers
Familiar with a range of tools and technologies required for development across Windows, Linux and Mac
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, working well with Program and Product managers
Able to work independently, make decisions quickly communicate effectively with executive leadership
Knowledge of offensive and defensive cyber-security concepts and tactics, secure software development, incident response and/or computer forensics
For positions located in Colorado: The base salary range is Min $167000 - $301000. Bonus, commission, and/or equity may be eligible for this position.
