Functions/Duties of Position

The mission of the Information Technology Group (ITG) is to develop, implement and maintain technology-based services and solutions enabling OHSU to effectively manage information to accomplish its missions.

The Healthcare Technical Services group provides technical solutions for the Healthcare Application Management Division through System to System Interfaces, system technical support, network integration, managing software installation and updates, and web application development.

Under the supervision of the Healthcare Technical Services Manager, the Epic Interface Project Manager schedules, monitors, and implements small, medium and large sized system-to-system interface projects. Facilitating project communication within Epic groups is a critical task. The Epic Interface Project Manager has complete responsibility to implement system-to-system interface projects within OHSU. Supervising the training of other Epic Interface team members, creation/evaluation of Invitation to Bid Requests (ITB), documentation, call schedules, building new interfaces, migrating existing interfaces to a new interface engine, and other project life cycle tasks are expected of this position. This position may also be responsible for assigning tasks to other project team members and monitoring their progress throughout the project life cycle.

The Incumbent will observe due care, objectivity and respect for confidentiality. All employees must keep confidential what they hear and what they see when handling, reviewing, or observing: communications and records thereof (calls, email, pages, fax, etc.), data transmission, databases, or other forms of information. Confidentiality extends to the identities of the parties of the communications, and even to the fact that the communication took place. When sharing information, consider whether the recipient has a true “business need to know.”

ITG employees are responsible for the security of OHSU technology. In exercising their duties, ITG employees must follow OHSU’s security directives, incorporating security measures in the delivery of their everyday tasks, and are required to report security concerns to the OHSU Integrity Office and/or ITG Security Engineering team.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Three years or more paid work experience as a Project Leader managing and implementing information system projects. Must have ten years of cumulative paid working experience in the information technology field; OR
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience where one year of experience will be substituted for an Associate’s degree and two years of experience will be substituted for a Bachelor’s degree. One year of relevant paid work experience may be substituted for two years of graduate study in information systems or related field.
  • Successful candidates must show that they have significant organizational skills and can lead projects from conception, schedule, design, testing, through implementation. Understanding the seven bodies of project management knowledge or Project Management Professional Certification (PMP Certification) is preferred. This classification is not eligible for lead worker pay differential.

Experience:

  • Experience in the analysis and design of Healthcare systems.
  • Experience with Epic Bridges
  • Experience with Orion Rhapsody Interface Engine
  • Familiarity with databases such as Cache’, Oracle, MS SQL, MS Access, Unify, etc.
  • Successful candidates must have experience and working knowledge in project management and healthcare system software, HL7 and TCP/IP.

Job Related Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to manage interface development projects using the HL7 standard.
  • Working knowledge of healthcare interface process and the Orion Rhapsody interface
  • Working knowledge of one or more distributed healthcare computer applications. e.g. mainframes, HIS, LIS, RIS, pharmacy systems, registration, scheduling.
  • Demonstrate Core Competencies as established for your position (Leading Self, Leading Others, Leading Leaders, Leading Function)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Healthcare HL7 interface Trained/Certified.
  • Epic Bridges Certification
  • Orion Rhaspsody Training

Experience:

  • Experience with terminal emulation software, file transfer, and data conversions.
  • Experience in developing specifications for system to system interfaces.
  • Experience in writing system validation plans.

Job Related Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Understanding of the operations of a Healthcare Organization, Inpatient and Outpatient.
  • Understanding of the operations of patient registration, patient accounts and coverages.
  • Demonstrated facility with Epic Bridges. Working knowledge of EpicCare Ambulatory and IP, Epic Cadence (Scheduling), Epic Billing(HB and Resolute), and Epic Registration (Prelude).
  • Knowledge or experience with one or more computer languages. Specifically C++ and JavaScript
  • Ability to work in a highly autonomous role by demonstrating self-motivation.
  • Ability to function effectively in a very dynamic team environment.
  • Ability to provide highly critical quality analysis and testing of new software applications or feature (including beta testing.)
  • Ability to manage multiple complex tasks efficiently while successfully meeting assigned deadlines.
