Summary

The incumbent is assigned to the Auto Valet room of the Laundry Section, Facilities Management Division, at the Portland VA Medical Center. This assignment consists of processing, maintaining and ordering uniforms. Incumbent may perform other duties as assigned by the Textile Care Manager; however, instructions controlling the work performed originate with the Laundry Work Leader.

Responsibilities

Major Duties include but are no limited to: Incumbent checks employee uniforms for stains, mends and for possible fair, wear and tear (FWT). Tracks all outstanding orders for uniforms and scrubs. Incumbent is responsible for assigning and maintaining Auto Valet spreadsheet, and performing monthly audits to ensure unused uniforms are returned to Laundry for reissue. Incumbent is responsible for ensuring all uniforms are placed in the proper placement based on the Auto Valet number assigned. Reports any shortages of uniforms or scrubs to the Textile Care Manager, or his designee as needed. Communicates with his counterpart in Vancouver any issues with product quantity or quality. Maintains Auto Valet area, reporting any equipment issues using the Electronic Work Order system. Responsible for ensuring all uniforms and scrubs are secured daily and whenever not physically in the Uniform Room. Responsible for the cleaning and dusting of the auto valet room as needed. Issues all uniforms for Portland VA Medical Center personnel working closely with the Uniform Operator in Vancouver, as well as the Medical Center Seamstress. Maintains adequate scrub par level, to assure all customer needs are met. Generates requests for uniform/scrub issue and stock. Determines when uniforms are to be discarded, mended or replaced and ships to Vancouver for rag out. Updates and maintains the Portland Uniform Database with all pertinent information to include but not limited to all the following information: name, service, date issued number of items issued, and type of item issued. Fills out weekly work sheet for uniforms processed. Fills out electronic work sheet for uniforms being excessed, including size, color and amount. Submits all daily and weekly reports via email to the laundry office. Responsible for training employees in this position depending upon required needs. Work Schedule: Mon-Fri, 3:00pm to 11:30pm

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 04/13/2021. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Examples of such duties include but are not limited to the operation of a flatwork ironing systems, small and large piece folders, gas and steam dryers; sorting general Medical Center soiled linens, patient clothing and surgical linen; stacking folded flatwork, folding roughdry items; checking for rewash or repair. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Incumbent is required to frequently maneuver heavy carts, stand for long periods of time, push and pull heavy carts on and off trailer or truck. Bend, stoop and stand/walk continuously on cement surface. Incumbent is also required to push and pull heavy weights of wet laundered linens.

Work is accomplished indoors where lighting is good. Working conditions can change with the season, it can become hot in the summer months and with all the steam-heated equipment it can be extremely warm. In winter months early duty hours are subject to cold drafts when dock doors are open during loading and unloading of linens. Incumbent is subject to muscle strain, because of bending, stopping, pulling and pushing.
