Functions/Duties of Position

This position reports to the Vice President, Equity & Inclusion. The Diversity Manager for Student Recruitment and Retention serves as the institution-wide resource to support the recruitment and retention of diverse students for the Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry, and Public Health. The position is responsible for the development and implementation of (prospective and matriculated) student recruitment and retention by supporting strategic initiatives, programs and policies with the purpose of increasing the diversity of diverse student representation. The incumbent will develop working relationships with OHSU and external academic leaders, admission committees, administrative management, recruiters, faculty, and others to provide consultation to establish best practices and programs to achieve an increase of diversity enrollment and matriculation among OHSU student populations. The incumbent is responsible for creating effective enrollment management strategies for K-16, launching recruitment campaigns, implementing and managing current enrichment programs, development of new programs, develop and maintain tracking mechanisms and design of measurement to report student outcomes. The Student Diversity Manager of Recruitment and Retention is responsible for tracking applicants from initial contact through the interview, and matriculation process. The incumbent will work with the communication specialist to create and support social media outlets to implement effective strategies to recruit diverse students at meetings conferences and other forums representing OHSU. Additionally, the incumbent will develop, implement and/or identify retention support services in collaboration with schools.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
  • Five years of student recruitment experience

  • Experience that demonstrates the ability to successfully work in partnership in an academic or healthcare environment

  • Previous experience working with student and program development

  • Previous experience working with a variety of diverse communities or populations (disability, minority, and disadvantaged)

  • Working knowledge of recruitment principles and laws and regulations related to student recruitment

  • Proven creative ability in sourcing candidates and marketing using a variety of mediums

  • Proven ability to undertake multiple priorities concurrently, ability to self-prioritize, and to consistently meet due dates and time lines

  • Demonstrated excellence in influencing skills, partnering and relationship building skills a must

  • High emotional intelligence and ability to facilitate groups and group process

  • Strong stand-up presentation/training skills required

  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills to effectively interact with faculty and faculty candidates through the recruitment process

  • Professionalism and customer service disposition are essential

  • Ability to work in a collaborative, team-centered work environment and provide expert support to internal groups in a timely manner

  • Working knowledge of personal software packages to prepare correspondence, as well as create and generate spreadsheets and reports, as described above

  • High level of integrity

  • Change leader

  • Tolerance for ambiguity

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters and/or Doctoral highly preferred
  • Prior work experience diverse students in academic center or university
