The Tehrani Lab is seeking a motivated college student who is interested in medical research and gaining valuable lab experience. As part of the Glaucoma Division of Casey Eye Institute, our research is focused on studying astrocyte cell signaling within the optic nerve head in response to an induced glaucoma-like event. The successful candidate will participate in experiments using anesthetized rats and mice, managing a mouse colony, tissue processing, microscope imaging, and image processing and analysis.
Work is largely conducted in a wet lab, with possible exposure to various chemicals. Employee must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (including gown, gloves, and eye protection).
Animal handling (rats and mice) is an integral part of the position. With proper training, the employee must be able to comfortably work with rodents, both awake and under anesthesia. Reasonable accommodations are available if the employee has or develops allergies to rodents.
Must be enrolled in an undergraduate program with a minimum 6 credit hours.
Successful completion of one or more lab classes (i.e. chemistry, biology, anatomy, etc.). Can demonstrate a working knowledge of basic lab safety, and is familiar with a range of commonly used lab equipment.
Meticulous attention to detail and record keeping, analytical skills, good team working skills, able to self-manage time.
Majoring in chemistry, biology, or related sciences.
GPA of 3.0 or above.
