The Nursing Education and Practice Specialist supports nursing and clinical specialty programs at a system level in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of clinical education and practice initiatives. Specific activities will be defined by nursing leadership. Activities include but are not limited to planning and provision of General Nursing Orientation; development, review, revision and management of patient care standards; competency assessment, education of nursing staff in all specialties and assessment of staff learning needs.


BSN or MSN/MN required; MSN/MN preferred.


Four years relevant clinical experience at a proficient to expert level of practice required.

Nursing Education and Practice Specialist is responsible for all vascular access education and support across Legacy Health.

  • Responsible for IV-related RCA action plans; vascular access product selection & recalls; device-related pressure injury prevention; CLABSI prevention, and education/onboarding of our vascular access team across the system.

  • Responsible for initial and ongoing competency assessments for our Intraosseous IVs, peripheral IVs, and central lines. Current major initiatives include: system wide rollout of new retained guidewire policy, EZ IO procedure update, MaxZero rollout, pediatric Hubguard project, Trialysis rollout, policy development for high-flow apheresis ports, and staff training for an occlusion research project (led by LRI).


Current applicable state RN license required. AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers.


Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning principles as evidenced by the ability to facilitate learning for patients/families, nursing staff or other members of the healthcare team.

Effective teaching and communication skills.

Strong meeting facilitation and group process skills.

Ability to work effectively in teams, and independently.

Knowledge of performance excellence Lean principles; ability to apply performance excellence Lean process.

Demonstrated ability to collaborate with staff and leadership to implement change.
