This is a Scrum Master role on our Data team . Yep, a Scrum Master in Data. We need someone who can bring leadership to this team of data engineers, business intelligence engineers and more. Someone who can move the team past pesky hurdles and can push through those inevitable issues that always seem to happen. The people on the team are strong, but they want a Scrum Master who can improve each of them, and guide them, and make them better and more effective!

This Data team has responsibilities across the entire company , and this role will require someone to drive the team and get them successful. This is a new scrum team, and we have made sure to put in placeall the needed parts of scrum to give you success. And there are definite plans to grow this role as success is realized. If you understand data, and have a solid background in scrum, we want to hear from you! You should know data warehousing and data management . If you have only touched software, and aren’t familiar with data, then this role is not for you. Columbia Sportswear is looking for a scrum master with strong leadership skills to work with an enterprise analytics development team to deliver business value efficiently. This person will use and teach the agile framework to keep the team focused and moving quickly towards delivering business value.

The Scrum Master is a member of the Enterprise Information Management team. The EIM team is responsible for the design, development, testing, maintenance, and support of Columbia’s enterprise data assets. The successful candidate will have an understanding of complex organizational analytical and data needs to enable effective leadership of the scrum team and will be adaptable with their understanding of the concepts and principles of Agile development lifecycles. Columbia does not strictly follow Scrum or any framework.


  • Use your soft skills to creates a culture of unity and ownership and enable the team to meet critical deadlines.

  • Coach the team when to use Agile practices, use your collaboration and influence skills to get the team on board, engaged and invested to delight their customers.

  • Be influential by identifying roadblocks, using the Agile process to build a culture of unity and ownership , and doggedly remove impediments for the team

  • Be a good listener and challenge the team to do better and succeed. Praise them for success, fail often with them and ensure they continue to move forward. Pay attention to the team’s daily activities to gain a clear view of the progress of the sprint and to ensure each team member is actively engaged.

Responsibilities :

  • Guide and coach team in adoption of Agile

  • Use your experience with data warehousing, analytics and data management to support the team

  • Facilitate and help the team deliver on committed work for the sprint

  • Supports the team by removing impediments and encouraging small, iterative work and value

  • Work with team on managing the backlog.

  • Recognizes, identifies and eliminates blocks as they occur.

  • Protects the backlog from changing priorities and elevates issues to senior management when it does

  • Supports the Product Owner to meet the sprint objectives

  • Communicates with management and stakeholders by facilitating reviews and demos

  • Coordinate with other data project teams

  • Manages Agile events (Sprint Planning, Stand-ups, Demos, Retrospectives, etc.)

  • Supports story estimation and feature development

  • Measures success by managing burndown, burnup, MTTR, and other Lean and Agile metrics
