TEC Equipment, Inc. Strategic Sourcing Manager in Portland, Oregon

In alignment with TEC’s Vision and efforts to continuously improve, our Corporate Parts/Supply Chain Department has an opportunity for an experienced Strategic Sourcing Manager who will be responsible for developing and executing the sourcing and supplier relationship management strategy for the tractor/trailer parts category of spend in order to minimize cost, leverage purchasing volume, mitigate risk, and improve product/service quality and effectiveness. Additionally, the Strategic Sourcing Manager will lead strategic sourcing initiatives for indirect categories of spend. The Strategic Sourcing Manager conducts moderate and highly complex sourcing projects using a formal multi-step sourcing process and guides other team members through simple pricing initiatives.

This position reports to the Supply Chain Director and collaborates with internal team members, internal customers at the branches, and external vendors/suppliers.

  • Perform spend analytics: Identify data needed to perform thorough analysis of parts spend. Utilize data and analytical tools to support the identification of opportunities.

  • Develop sourcing strategy: Gather input from TEC Equipment stakeholders regarding customer needs, market trends, cost/price intelligence and supplier performance. Conduct industry research. Use these inputs to develop a sourcing wave plan.

  • Complete sourcing initiatives: Conduct moderate and highly complex sourcing projects using generally accepted tools and processes, including but not limited to: product and service specification definition; supplier research and qualification; requests for information; requests for quote; auctions; award of business; implementation.

  • Manage supplier relationships: Engage with strategic partner suppliers to ensure optimal performance and value. Develop annual formal supplier business review schedule for strategic partners and conduct reviews, engaging appropriate supplier stakeholders. Identify and complete action items to drive continuous improvement in supplier/customer relationship.

  • Guide and mentor team: Provide guidance to team members on conducting simple, ad-hoc spot price negotiations. Ensure actions align with category strategy.

  • Monitor compliance, measure and communicate results: Develop tools to monitor compliance and measure the results of sourcing initiatives and supplier relationship management activities. Communicate results to TEC Equipment stakeholders.

  • Develop company standards: Assist in the development of standard procurement tools and processes. Implement and train appropriate team members on tools and processes.

To be successful in this position, we are seeking candidates who have the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain, operations and technology, finance, or other relevant field. An equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.

  • Minimum of seven years of relevant experience in strategic sourcing, category management, purchasing, or supply chain management.

  • Strong knowledge of multi-step strategic sourcing processes

  • Advanced skill with analytical tools (MS Excel, Power BI, etc.).

  • Highly professional; strong interpersonal and leadership skills within a collaborative team environment with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of an organization (from front-line retail team to executives). Ability to influence without authority.

  • Effective and diverse negotiation skills; ability to develop relationships

  • Ability to collect and analyze diverse data and use data to create compelling recommendations.

  • Ability to travel within the US to TEC branches and supplier and industry events as needed (contingent on appropriate safety measures and guidance).
