JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Nutrition Services Production Lead, The NS Production Assistant helps coordinate the efficient operation of the National School Breakfast & National School Lunch Program at the Central Kitchen; assists in planning and preparing large quantities of food to be sent out to school sites; and is responsible for operation of the Food Service Program in the absence of the NS Production Lead. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1.Assist in maintaining standards of efficiency, sanitation and safety throughout the Food Service Department. 2.Assume responsibility for the direction of daily operations in the absence of the NS Production Lead. 3.Calculate and prepare proper quantities of foods to be sent out to sites according to information on DPRs & weekly planners, adjusting recipes as necessary. 4.Help coordinate preparation and cooking times to ensure food is ready for transport on schedule. 5.Assist in proper loading of carts for delivery, ensuring counts are correct and proper transport temperatures are recorded on DPR. 6.Keep track of essential cooking supplies and ingredients, notifying Production Lead when product is needed in a timely manner. 7.Assist in ordering, inventorying and storing all supplies and equipment for Central Kitchen. 8.Participate in cleaning of utensils, dishes, trays, and cafeteria and kitchen equipment. 9.Communicate with parents and staff as necessary. 10.Perform related duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 1.High School Diploma or equivalent. 2.Able to relate well to students, staff and public. 3.Read, understand and carry out written and/or oral instructions. 4.Be able to perform basic arithmetic. 5.Adhere to the Federal requirements of a drug-free workplace. 6.Possess knowledge and ability to perform the basic management of the Food Service program including: a.Plan quantities and prepare meals for several hundred students. b.Keep necessary records in an accurate manner. c.Adhere to proper food handling and kitchen sanitation procedures at all times. d.Employ proper methods of cleaning and maintaining food service areas. 7.Work effectively with minimum supervision. 8.One year experience in a large volume food service program, preferably in a school Food Service program. 9.Possess or be able to obtain a First Aid and CPR certification. 10.Possess or be able to obtain an Oregon Food Handlers card. 11.Possess or be able to obtain Serve Safe certification, or other comparable food service management certification. 12.Courses in food service preparation, sanitation and safety desirable.
