Position Summary

The Construction Crew Leader is the driving force in field production and crew management, and is responsible for the quality completion of jobs and is held accountable for the tasks as delegated to them by the Construction General Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Therefore, this position description is designed to outline primary duties, qualifications, and job scope, but not limit the incumbent nor the organization to just the work identified. It is our expectation that each employee will offer their services wherever and whenever necessary to ensure the success of our endeavors.

This is a supervisory position, and will supervise field construction positions, including workers, and laborers.

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

Leadership and Supervision of Crews

  • Lead members of a small production crew to demonstrate safe and efficient construction practices and equipment use.

  • Direct the work of onsite crew members as specified by Construction General Manager.

  • Train laborers and workers in the correct way to perform tasks and continually check on their progress.

  • Give feedback on the crew?s performance and suggest ways to improve.

  • Identify issues and rule violations with crew members promptly and report to supervisor.

  • Serve as a communicator to field staff, supporting and advancing company values and standards.

  • Provide reports to determine labor progress.

Production

  • Follow and help maintain a daily plan of action to organize tasks to complete jobs effectively and within the allotted time.

  • Communicate job requirements to crew before beginning work emphasizing special needs of clients.

  • Assign tasks and determine needed equipment and/or materials for the day.

  • Ensure that all vehicles and equipment are in proper and safe working condition at the end of the day and for use the following morning.

  • Keep supervisor informed of progress, issues, etc. throughout the day and recommend reasonable adjustments to plan necessary to complete daily goals. Seek clarification as needed.

  • Keep equipment clean and orderly.

  • Communicate any needs expressed directly by the client to the Construction General Manager to help ensure client satisfaction.

  • Always promote and carry out Company?s values of quality and productivity

Administration

  • Provide project schedule to CGM for each project to include the below items at least.

  • Material amounts and purchase dates.

  • Construction schedule with labor needs.

  • Dates and amounts of invoices that will need to be paid.

  • Dates and amounts of payments to be received from clients.

  • Provide oversight on projects that are being done and ensure the timelines and budgets are being maintained.

  • Ensure all safety procedures are being adhered to.

  • Ensure crew is obtaining maximum efficiency with time and materials.

  • Maintain all progress of projects through CoConstruct and endure all documents are entered.

  • Provide daily progress reports to CGM with details of project status and changes.

  • Identify issues and rule violations with crew members promptly and report to supervisor.

  • Serve as a communicator to field staff, supporting and advancing company values and standards.

  • Communicate job requirements to crew before beginning work emphasizing special needs of clients.

  • Communicate any needs expressed directly by the client to the Construction General Manager to help ensure client satisfaction.

  • Always promote and carry out Company?s values of quality and productivity.

  • Complete all required job reports.

  • Keep abreast of industry trends and developments.

  • Keep informed of Company news and developments.

Production Safety

  • Promote the safe and efficient use of equipment and vehicles, advancing a culture of safety at all times.

  • Maintain a safe work site by instructing crews how to use tools and equipment, how to handle materials and what safety equipment is necessary when performing tasks.

  • Report any injuries or property damage immediately to the supervisor.

  • Report all vehicle or equipment damage immediately to the CGM and follow up with shop staff appropriately that day.

  • Follow all safety and work conduct rules and ensure that staff is doing the same.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • At least twenty years direct experience in construction, construction management, or building trades required.

  • Demonstrated applied knowledge of construction methods, materials, processes, and industry best practices in the construction and or renovation of single-family homes and multifamily and light commercial buildings.

  • At least three years of supervisory experience of construction filed staff, office/program staff, temporary workers, and volunteers.

  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle, climb stairs and ladders

  • Ability to traverse and inspect all areas of job sites in all types of weather; this may include walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching.

  • Experience working with and instructing volunteers preferred.

  • Experience with Self-Help or Sweat Equity programs preferred.

  • Demonstrated skill in the use of general residential/light commercial building practices,

  • Proper operation of assorted power and hand tools.

  • Ability to read and apply blueprints and specifications.

  • Skill in using Microsoft office, and ability to learn computer construction and estimating software.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing

Education

  • Education, on-the-job training, trade /vocational school or training in construction or closely related fields may be substituted for the experience at the discretion of Big River Builders and or NWU.

Specific vision abilities required by this position include those required for reading, writing, and typing. This position will be working indoors and outdoors. This position will be working in the field and will encounter conditions including varying temperatures, soil/ground conditions, light levels, noise levels, sun, rain, and weather conditions, and other environmental conditions, including exposure to characteristic construction site dangers. It is expected that the incumbent of this position will use appropriate personal protective equipment, safety equipment, and exercise prudence when encountering varying conditions on job sites to protect the life, health, and safety of themselves, and others.
