Oregon Judicial Department is recruiting for central service accountant (OJD Accountant 1). The person in this position performs accounting and other financially-related services on behalf of the department.

The successful applicant will be organized, will be able to maintain accuracy and meet deadlines, and will provide excellent service to OJD's internal and external customers.

Duties & Responsibilities

Typical job duties may include, but are not limited to, the tasks listed below. Assigned tasks may be changed to accommodate workload and organizational needs.

  • Research and resolve complex accounting issues and discrepancies.

  • Handle variances, balancing accounts, forged checks research, NSFR processing, error reports, and month end processing.

  • Perform day to day accounting functions.

  • Provide centralized receipting services for debtors with cases in any of Oregon circuit courts.

  • Perform a variety of specialized, sometimes complex clerical work related to court accounting.

  • Answer court-related questions regarding tax offset, garnishments, parking fines, and other general questions.

  • Troubleshoot related problems found.

  • Assist central services team to streamline the statewide accounting processes.

  • Attend meetings and training, as required.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

The work schedule is currently 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. It is eligible for overtime compensation for hours worked in excess of 40 per work week.

Occasional overtime hours may be required.

Occasional daytime or overnight travel may be required.

You must have a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record or be able to provide an acceptable alternative means of transportation.

Frequent phone and in-person contact with people from diverse backgrounds.

Frequent phone and in-person contact with people who may at times be angry, hostile, confused, or frustrated.

Lifting up to 25 pounds of office materials or equipment may be required.

This is a typical office environment and the following equipment may be used: telephone, personal computer, copy machine, calculator, scanner, and fax machine.

Qualifications, Required & Requested Skills

Minimum Qualifications

The qualified candidate must have at least one (1) year of increasingly responsible work experience that supports the knowledge, skills, and abilities requirements listed for the position.

AND

Possession of a bachelor's degree in accounting, business, or finance with major coursework in accounting or a related field.

OR

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to four (4) years that typically supports the knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.

Requested Skills and Attributes

  • Experience providing customer service to the general public via telephone.

  • Proficiency using Microsoft Excel in a business or professional setting.

  • Skill reviewing accounting, financial, or other numerical data for errors or discrepancies.

  • Skill performing accounts receivable functions.

  • Skill creating, updating, or reviewing customer account information.

Salary

The Judicial Department's practice is to begin employees at the first pay step. However, a higher starting pay rate may be considered depending upon the applicant's education and experience.
