Kaiser Permanente Surgical PA Urology in Salem, Oregon
Provide high quality health care to Kaiser Permanente members in a cost-effective manner and in accordance with accepted professional practice standards.
Provide direct assessment, diagnosis and formulation/implementation of treatment plan for patients presenting with urologic illness or injury. Outpatient responsibilities include histories and physicals, preoperative exams, ordering and performing diagnostic studies and medications, screening referrals, scheduling surgeries, performing procedures and post-operative follow-up. Significant time is spent handling patient inquiries regarding preoperative, intra-operative and post-operative care. Possible day or night call coverage for the Portland region as determined by the physician group based on need/acuity.
Provide surgical services as a first assistant on urological cases in the operating room. Surgical procedures include but are not limited to ureteroscopy, laparoscopic and open nephrectomy, and robotic surgery.
For Inpatient only: Provide inpatient care by rounding on urological patients during all weekdays and call weekends. Responsibilities include writing post-operative orders, charting follow-up notes, changing dressings, removing sutures, catheter management, irrigation or retention, placement of difficult foley catheter. Dictate all discharge summaries and write discharge orders for follow-up care in the clinic. Perform other duties as requested. The above care must be documented in writing in patient's permanent medical record in accordance with accepted medical/legal standards. All medical care must be provided in accordance with accepted practice standards, hospital/clinic protocols (including supervision by a physician) and State licensing guidelines.
- Graduate of ANA approved Physician Assistant PA or Child Health Associate training program or equivalent requirements to meet State licensure.
License, Certification, Registration
NCCPA certification required upon hire/transfer.
Current Oregon and Washington PA license required. License in state where assigned required upon hire/transfer, application for license in secondary state required within 2 weeks of hire/transfer and must be obtained within 6 months.
DEA/Prescribing registration required upon hire/transfer.
National Provider Identifier (NPI) required upon hire/transfer.
Thorough and working knowledge of urologic disease and injuries and their treatment.
Thorough and working knowledge of surgical techniques, with particular emphasis on endoscopic/laparoscopic procedures.
Working knowledge of state health care laws, licensing board regulations and open controlled substance regulations. Important to know limitations and when to refer patients to the urologist.
Ability to assess, diagnose and plan effective treatment for urologic diseases and injuries.
Excellent assistant surgical skills, especially with urologic procedures.
Ability to use appropriate procedural/testing equipment, to see large volume of patients, and to interface with large physician and support staff.
Minimum two (2) years of clinical experience in surgical setting which includes performing minor procedures.
Minimum two (2) years of surgical experience, with emphasis on endoscopic and open procedures.
