Youth Development Specialist Location of Position: HOST Number of Openings: 2 Hours: 12:30 am ' 8:30 am (Graveyard Shift) 1st position is Tuesday ' Saturday 12:30 am ' 8:30 am (Graveyard Shift) 2nd position is Thursday ' Monday 12:30 am ' 8:30 am (Graveyard Shift) Positions are Full-time ' 40 hours per week. YOUR ROLE at NWHS: As our Youth Development Specialist, you will collaboratively and compassionately work with runaway, homeless, and street-oriented young adults, ages 18-24 years. This position is responsible for providing direct care and supervision of youth staying in the overnight shelter program. Staff are expected to stay alert to all safety and security matters that may arise during a shift. Additionally, this position requires staff to interact directly with the youth in the morning hours and provide emotional/crisis support when appropriate. Light cleaning and upkeep of the facility is required. Some additional duties pertaining to service documentation and compliance monitoring is expected. Our Youth Development Specialists IN Action: Youth Development Specialists engage with and empower youth through positive youth development (PYD), skills training, and collaborative problem solving. Youth Development Specialists are also responsible for overseeing the program and monitoring youth behaviors to ensure program, staff and client safety. In addition, you will have opportunities to make a significant, positive impact on the lives of youth by providing crisis intervention, referral to supportive services, and re-connecting youth with their school and community CORE COMPETENCIES: Positively represents NWHS by communicating effectively with youth, staff, and our community in a courteous, respectful, and professional manner. Provide supervision, direct care, safety, and security to youth accessing HOST services. Encourage youth toward self and social responsibility Follow appropriate program/shift schedules to complete tasks, and manage the program milieu and assist in completion of all necessary written documentation, record keeping & reports during shift as required. Enthusiastically participate in service delivery planning and other activities as directed by the Program Coordinator and in conjunction with other community partners and case managers.
