Job Description

Job Summary:

A FLIR systems Product Manager is responsible for coordinating updates to existing, fielded products, as well as leading new product development to ensure that FLIR products and solutions remain relevant in the marketplace and support our customers charged with the responsibility to save lives and livelihoods. The position responsibilities encompass multi-spectral surveillance systems in the airborne, land, maritime, and mobile surface domains. The position reports into Product Management and involves cooperative development, engineering resource coordination, leading market analyses, and coordinated Business Development and Capture Management support to ensure new products are well positioned to win in the marketplace.

Location: This role can be based at FLIR headquarters in Wilsonville, Oregon or at our facility in Billerica, MA.

Detailed Description:

Market Definition and Assessment

  • Assess market trends and future operational requirements through market research, secondary reports, and customer contact.

  • Research budgetary documents, project justification, and general information from potential customers to determine direction of movement to drive product positioning and internal investments.

  • Make educated, fact-based recommendations to Government & Defense business unit leadership to ensure internal research and development projects are moving surveillance products the right direction to provide customers what they need and support growth.

  • Assist and advise leadership on potential minority investments, mergers, acquisitions or other teaming agreements that can lead to further product differentiation and a more satisfied customer base.

Product Roadmap & Technology Management

  • Develop and manage the product and portfolio vision for our airborne, land based, maritime, and vehicle systems segments.

  • Working closely with the engineering and business development teams, lead the development and alignment of minimum product requirements for success.

  • Manage the life cycle of products within the portfolio, coordinate and communicate the sunset for legacy products.

Product Marketing

  • Work with leadership and marketing to develop and define strategies for current and new products.

  • Coordinate pricing strategy and product positioning with fellow product managers, business development teams to ensure delivery of the best value for the capability.

  • Support business development team with presentations, marketing material, and direct customer engagements.


Minimum Education

  • BS in Scientific or Engineering field

  • MBA preferred

Minimum Experience

  • 5-7 years applicable experience in product management/ product development

  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate cross functional teams and deliver unity of effort

  • Successful support of new product development, launch and new business capture

  • Familiar with both traditional and Agile development processes

  • Must be able to process large volumes of information quickly and determine common threads and relate it to current product strategy

  • Must be a team player with strong problem solving skills and ability to operate in conditions of uncertainty

  • Experience with EO/IR products targeted for government and defense applications preferred

  • Experience with current and future sensor communications networks and architectures

  • Excellent interpersonal, and communication skills to foster a cooperative environment

  • Ability to develop recommendations and justify sound business decisions and strategies

  • Former military or law enforcement sensor operation experience preferred
