Purpose of Job:

The Software Engineering Manager will be responsible for management of software development engineers; as well as the design, development, testing and implementation of APCON?s client service products and embedded systems. This individual will lead the software development team in creation of next generation innovative products.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical management and leadership of software engineering team consisting of firmware, GUI, and functional test engineers

  • Assists team development by holding teams accountable for their deliverables and removing roadblocks

  • Drives the design and development of new enterprise network switching products from conception through production; including successful release of new products

  • Analyzes software and hardware requirements to determine feasibility of design within time and cost constraints

  • Drives re-fit of existing code for maintainability and reliability

  • Drives functional testing of software and hardware

  • Designs and writes engineering requirements from product requirements

  • Oversees design and code review

  • Generates plans/schedules for varying projects

  • Generates status reports based on project status

  • Conducts performance reviews, coaching and training, promotions, disciplinary actions, and other managerial duties as needed

  • Trains customers/employees on new products/upgrades

  • Contributes to product requirement specifications

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • 10+ years? experience in engineering design and development

  • 3+ years? experience in an engineering management role

  • Experience leading technical product development across all phases of product lifecycle including prototyping, design, development, and testing

  • Software background requires:

  • Experience leading design teams responsible for developing enterprise-level software

  • Proven track record driving complex product development

  • Experience to lead troubleshooting issues across different layers in SW stack

  • Familiarity with networking technologies and protocols is a plus

  • Demonstrated ability to present clearly and succinctly to project teams and executives.

  • Demonstrated excellence in leadership and communication

Education:

  • BS Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field is required (MSCS/MSEE a plus)

Physical Requirements:

  • Talking, hearing, standing, walking, sitting, crouching, crawling, kneeling, and/or climbing stairs. Reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling, using hands to feel or handle objects, tools or controls

  • Vision abilities include: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus

  • May occasionally lift and/or move office products and supplies, up to 15 pounds
